The Pentagon wants every Bell/Boeing V-22 Osprey to receive a new gearbox by 2027; however, at a production rate of 12 units per month, the math quietly raises questions about whether that goal is achievable. The issue is significant because the Osprey has transformed military aviation by combining the vertical takeoff and landing capabilities of a helicopter with the speed and range of a conventional turboprop aircraft.
