In the commercial aviation sector, there have been few innovations in recent years as radical as the Boeing 777X folding wingtip when it comes to wing design. The first commercial airliner with winglets, the triangular wingtip fences seen on some Airbus aircraft of the time, was the Airbus A310-300, which has featured them since 1985. From there, the evolution of the winglet continued, with many designs since, but the folding wingtips seen on the 777X are the first of their kind in the sector.
