In April 2020, American Airlines' newsroom confirmed the retirement of five aircraft types, including the 757-200s, that joined the America West fleet in 1987 and the American fleet in 1989. This aircraft was responsible primarily for mainland domestic and Hawaii routes. It also flew some trans-Atlantic and Latin American services.
