There are three major Middle Eastern full-service carriers: Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar. Based in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha, respectively, these three airlines offer some of the largest passenger networks in the world, largely due to their geographical locations. The Middle East is not in the geographic center of the world, but it is central. To its west are Europe and Africa, while Asia and Oceania lie to its east. The Middle East is situated in the middle, so these three airlines are positioned perfectly to capture these connecting flows.
