Concorde was a product of British and French engineering collaboration, built by the British Aircraft Corporation and Aérospatiale. It entered commercial service in 1976, flying passengers at speeds over twice the speed of sound. With a cruising altitude of 60,000 feet and a top speed of Mach 2.04, it cut transatlantic journey times in half and redefined long-haul air travel for a select, premium market.
