An empty leg is a private jet charter flight without any passengers onboard. The aircraft and crew often need to reposition from one airport to another to collect passengers or to return to base. For example, an aircraft and crew might be based in Dubai and needs to pick up a royal family in Jeddah and take them to Paris. The first sector from Dubai to Jeddah and then the last sector from Paris to Dubai (back to base) are the empty legs.
