Southwest Airlines is the largest low-cost airline in the world and one of the big four airlines in the United States. The airline was originally founded in the early 1970s by Herb Kelleher and Rollin King as a carrier that connected only Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. However, the airline took off in the following decades and began expanding nationwide. The airline also acquired Morris Air and AirTran Airways to assist in developing its operations throughout the United States.
