The Gloster Meteor was a joint venture between Gloster Aircraft Company, founded in 1917, and Power Jets, founded in 1936 as a jet engine manufacturing company. The first prototype Gloster aircraft took to the skies in May 1941 at Royal Air Force (RAF) Cranwell.
