The golden age of flying for flight attendants was between the 1940s and the 1960s, a time of glitz and glamour. Becoming a flight attendant was a highly revered profession at a time when females really could stay home or be secretaries, teachers, or nurses. This gave women a chance to see the world before they got married. Previously, flight attendants had been cabin boys, and it wasn't until Ellen Church, in 1930, suggested to Boeing Air Transport that nurses should be able to become flight attendants. The idea stuck, and the age of the flight attendant had begun.
