One hundred twenty years ago, on December 17, 1903, the very first powered, controlled and heavier-than-air flight in human history took off at Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The airplane, known as the Wright Flyer and piloted by Orville Wright during its first flight, marked the beginning of the new era of aviation.
