During the late 1990s, Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier Aerospace decided to develop a super mid-sized business jet. From the very start of the program, the idea was to build a plane that would fill a void between the existing Learjet 60 and the Bombardier Challenger 604. According to the research carried out by the company, they predicted that between 2000 and 2012, 1,000 midsize business jets would be sold.
