World War II was fought on many fronts, and during that time, humanity witnessed rapid aviation innovation in the form of then-modern fighters, bombers, and more. Though many WWII-era aircraft were eventually crashed, scrapped, or somehow retired, such warbirds never lost significance due to their essential role. Today, those that have survived are commonly displayed in museums worldwide, but the few that are airworthy are a favorite at airshows or other events.
