The Airbus A330 program was developed back in the late 1980s. It was seen as a new means of transporting passengers on long-distance flights using only two engines. Sensing a change in the wind, Boeing wanted to get in on the action. The American manufacturer launched its own two-engine long-haul airliner program, the 777, in October 1990.
