The Douglas Aircraft Company built its brand on the DC series of piston-engined aircraft and was a significant supplier of wartime aircraft during the Second World War. The DC-8 was the company’s first venture into the jet airliner space. At the time of its introduction, it was considered the gold-standard intercontinental airliner of its day.
