Exactly 50 years ago yesterday, on December 31, 1972, five people, including 38-year-old Pittsburgh Pirates right fielder Roberto Clemente died in a plane crash while delivering aid to the people of Nicaragua. The aircraft involved in the accident was a 15-year-old Douglas DC-7CF registered N500AE.
