It’s no secret that airfares have risen recently, particularly over the last 12 months. Rising costs of aviation fuel and airlines servicing increased levels of debt following the pandemic shutdown mean average ticket prices have steadily increased since the start of 2022. In fact, the national average fares in the USA hit $397 in the second quarter of the year, according to data from SmartAsset – a high not seen in the industry since 2014.
