It was February 24th, 1989, when this unimaginable event happened. United Airlines flight 811 was flying from Los Angeles to Sydney via Honolulu and Auckland. There were 337 passengers onboard the Boeing 747 and 18 crew, including 15 flight attendants. Captain David Cronin was assisted by first officer Gregory Slader and flight engineer Randal Thomas in the flight deck.
