International Civil Aviation Day: What Is It & Why Does It Matter?

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) was established in 1944 when 52 States signed The Convention on International Civil Aviation, also known as the Chicago Convention. In recognition of the anniversary and the contribution of civil aviation to the world, International Civil Aviation Day was first held in December 1994. Since 1996 it has been officially recognized by the United Nations (UN) as an annual observation day by all member states.
