Today marks 48 years since the crash of Lufthansa flight 540 near the Kenyan capital city of Nairobi. The accident involved a Boeing 747 which was flying on a multi-leg route from Frankfurt, Germany to Johannesburg, South Africa. The accident was the first instance where a crash involving the 747 resulted in fatalities.
