The Story Of The Shin Meiwa PS-1 & US-1A STOL Aircraft

The Shin Meiwa PS-1 and US-1A STOL aircraft were designed by the Japanese aircraft manufacturing company Shin Meiwa. The aircraft type was first introduced in 1971 and was retired in 2017. Both aircraft types were exclusively operated by the Japanese military, in particular the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force. In addition, the two types could be considered the same aircraft, as both were amphibians but were built for different operations. The PS-1 was designed for anti-submarine warfare purposes, while the US-1A was search-and-rescue (SAR) orientated.
