The demise of the Airbus A380 is well documented, with plenty of theories around why it did not succeed to the extent perhaps Airbus wished. But one crucial reason for its failure was out of the manufacturer's control – ETOPS rules. Changes to these rules meant the Airbus superjumbo became irrelevant, as we will see.
