Founded in 1961 by Michel Ziegler to provide glacier skiing drop-offs for winter sports enthusiasts, the airline's history was focused around the French Alps. Originally set up as a flying school and to provide a service to mountain communities, Société Air Alpes was based at Aéroport Chambéry Savoie Mont Blanc (CMF) and Viviers-du-Lac in Chambéry.
