Amphibious Seaplane: The Story Of The Beriev Be-103

Designed to operate short-haul flights in Russia's far north and Siberia, the Beriev Be-103 amphibious seaplane could takeoff and land on rivers, lakes, and streams. The plane provided access to areas that could not be reached any other way. Built by the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association (KnAAPO) in Russia, the Be-103 uses water-displacing sponsons and has a retractable tricycle landing gear for land operations. The aircraft also has a five-hour flight data recorder, engine fire-detection systems, and an ice detector.
