Jane Harrison: The BOAC Flight Attendant Who Became The Only Peacetime Female George Cross Recipient
On April 8th, 1968, BOAC Flight 712, flying with callsign Speedbird 712, departed London Heathrow to head to Sydney via Zurich and Singapore. However, the Boeing 707 suffered an engine failure on takeoff, which led to a fire breaking out. Five people died as a result, but the valiant efforts of Barbara Jane Harrison helped save the lives of hundreds of others on board the aircraft.
