The Airbus A330 program was developed back in the late 1980s. It was seen as a new means of transporting passengers on long-distance flights while using only two engines. Boeing, sensing a change in the wind, wanted to get in on the action. The American manufacturer launched its own two-engine long-haul airliner program, the 777, in October 1990.
