Inside Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines’ US Operations

This year, there are up to 51 daily flights to the US with Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines. No other year has had so many, and it may rise even higher when Turkish Airlines officially launches three new routes previously revealed as coming. As always, it says nothing of fares or loads.

Up to 51 daily flights

If Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines are combined, they have a minimum of 38 flights to the US each day this year, achieved on various dates in February. That’s based on analyzing schedules information available via data experts Cirium.

But it doesn’t stop there. There will be 51 daily departures on 44 occasions between June 1st to September 28th. That’s 38% more than in the same period in 2019 and 13% more than in 2021. And additional flights may be coming, with Turkish Airlines previously revealing Denver and then Seattle and Detroit. However, they haven’t been officially announced, and no start dates have been given.

On the days with 51 departures, Turkish Airlines typically has 19, Qatar Airways 18, and Emirates 14. The highest number of flights is because of Qatar Airways and Turkish. It occurs when Turkish has two a day to Boston and/or when Qatar Airways serves Atlanta, has two departures to Houston, or three to JFK.

The trio have up to 36 routes

The three carriers have up to 36 routes to the US, with the following all scheduled and bookable on a randomly chosen day with 51 flights: Tuesday, July 19th. On the analyzed day, Emirates has 13 US routes, Qatar Airways 12, and Turkish 11. Of course, things may change.

Emirates vs. Qatar vs. Turkish

Emirates and Qatar have a median of one flight per day on July 19th, while Turkish has two. As you’ll appreciate, aircraft gauge and seats per flight are pretty influential here. Cirium shows that Emirates has 435 seats per flight, thanks to its strong use of the A380, while Qatar has 308 and Turkish 320.

Boston will see Turkish’s B787-9s

The B777-300ER is Turkish Airlines’ highest-density aircraft and they’ll mainly be used on its well-established afternoon services to the US. In contrast, lower-capacity B787-9s are normally used in the morning, which has a growing bank of departures.

Boston will see Turkish’s B787s for the first time this year, with the first flight set for July 12th. It’ll operate TK101, leaving Istanbul at 07:40 and arriving in Boston at 11:20 local time. Returning, TK102 will depart at 12:50 and arrive home at 05:20 the next day.

The B787 will supplement its once-daily A330-300 operation. Turkish began Boston in May 2014, with the early days seeing the A340-300 and A330. The B787 will mark the first time since 2016 that the route has seen two aircraft types.
