Boeing’s Top 5 Aircraft Types Since 2000

Boeing is one of the two major aircraft manufacturers in the commercial aviation sphere. Since 2000 the American aerospace giant has delivered over 10,000 aircraft ranging from a handful of Boeing 747-400 Combis, all the way up to its most popular models? But what are the company’s top five models based on deliveries since 2,000? Simple Flying turned to data compiled by Air Insight to find out.

5. The Boeing 787-9

Despite a stoppage on Boeing 787 deliveries for much of 2021, the middle aircraft of the Dreamliner family was the fifth most delivered Boeing type over the past 22 years. Since launching deliveries in 2014, Boeing has delivered 563 787-9 Dreamliners. The aircraft has been delivered more than the 787-8 (377 deliveries) and the 787-10 (61 deliveries) combined.

4. The Boeing 737 MAX 8

Like the Boeing 787-9, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 is a relatively young product, with deliveries commencing in 2017. The aircraft also faced a delivery pause while the 737 MAX was grounded worldwide. However, this hasn’t stopped the next-generation narrowbody from making the top 5 aircraft by deliveries for the past 22 years. According to data from ch-aviation.com and Air Insight, Boeing delivered 631 737 MAX 8s to the end of 2021, with a considerable surge in deliveries last year.

3. Boeing 777-300ER

The second widebody in the top five deliveries manages to rank so highly due to its longevity. Unlike all other aircraft on this list, annual deliveries of the Boeing 777-300ER have never topped 100, with the highest being 88 aircraft in 2016. With deliveries at a steady rate since 2004, Boeing has delivered 829 Boeing 777-300ERs up to the end of 2021.

2. Boeing 737-700

Not quite topping 1,000 deliveries since 2000 is the Boeing 737-700. Boeing delivered 944 of the second smallest Next Generation (NG) Boeing 737 family over 22 years. Deliveries of the type peaked in 2004 with 109, though they failed to pass a dozen per year from 2012 until the final delivery in 2018.

1. Boeing 737-800

There really is no question that the Boeing 737-800 was the company’s most popular jet over the past 22 years. From 2000 to 2020 (when the final deliveries occurred), output only dropped below 100 per year in 2003, 2004, 2019, and 2020. In 2016 alone, 411 of the popular narrowbody jet were delivered.

Until the final Boeing 737-800 was dispatched, the company delivered a staggering 4,791 Boeing 737-800s since 2000. The aircraft remains an incredibly popular jet across the industry. According to data from ch-aviation.com, 4,151 of these remain active today with airlines across the world. The Ryanair Group is the largest 737-800 operator, with 406 aircraft spread across its subsidiaries, though American Airlines is the largest single operator with 303 of the type.
