11 Airports Will See 2 Or More Daily Emirates A380 Flights This Month

Last month Emirates took delivery of the final Airbus A380s to be produced by the European planemaker. The airline is already putting the jets to good use. 11 airports will see the giant of the skies land at least twice a day throughout January 2022. A further 15 airports are scheduled to see the A380 less than twice a day.

The Airbus A380s of most airlines are still sitting at airports worldwide, gathering dust. The tail end of 2021 did see a resurgence from some unexpected carriers. However, Emirates is going all out with its A380 operations utilizing around half of its fleet.

11 airports to receive two or more daily flights

Excluding the airline’s Dubai home base, 11 airports worldwide will receive two or more Emirates Airbus A380 arrivals during January 2022. According to schedule data from aviation data experts Cirium, London Heathrow is the top of the pack, expecting six daily rotations with the giant of the skies.

New York’s JFK Airport will see half of this. Three of the airline’s double-decker giants should land at JFK each day, though they won’t all take the same route. Two daily arrivals will be flown directly from Dubai, while another will operate a fifth freedom route via Milan. This also means that Milan will see more than two A380 arrivals a day. Each day it will see one arrival from each of Dubai and New York on the fifth freedom route. A standalone service from Dubai to Milan also operates six days a week.

Eight more destinations are currently scheduled to receive daily A380 services, assuming that the evolution of the pandemic doesn’t prompt any suspensions. These destinations are,

  • CAI – Cairo – Egypt
  • CDG – Paris (Charles De Gaulle) – France
  • DME – Moscow (Domodedovo) – Russia
  • DUS – Dusseldorf – Germany
  • FRA – Frankfurt – Germany
  • JED – Jeddah – Saudi Arabia
  • MAN – Manchester – United Kingdom
  • MUC – Munich – Germany

Emirates’ other Airbus A380 destinations

Three more destinations will see slightly more than daily Emirates Airbus A380 services but fall short of double daily. Madrid and Vienna will each see a daily service topped up with nine additional flights throughout the month. Meanwhile, 33 services are planned for Johannesburg.

11 airports have a daily rotation scheduled. These are,

  • AMM – Amman – Jordan
  • AMS – Amsterdam – the Netherlands
  • BKK – Bangkok – Thailand
  • GRU – Sao Paulo – Brazil
  • HAM – Hamburg – Germany
  • IST – Istanbul – Turkey
  • LAX – Los Angeles – United States
  • LGW – London Gatwick – United Kingdom
  • MRU – Mauritius – Mauritius
  • SYD – Sydney – Australia
  • ZRH – Zurich – Switzerland

Toronto (YYZ) is the only airport to see the Emirates Airbus A380 less than daily during January. Just 23 rotations are planned for the city throughout the month. Last year, an Emirates A380 arrival at the airport caused some confusion.

Around half the fleet is active

While most other airlines only have a handful of A380s, Emirates has 121. Around half are now active to support the schedule mentioned above. According to data from ch-aviation.com, 59 of the A380s are now operational, including a mix of brand new and some older aircraft. The oldest active A380 in the Emirates fleet is A6-EEA, a 9.71-year-old jet.
