Iberojet Will Be The First A350 Operator At Mexico’s Los Cabos

The Spanish charter airline Iberojet has announced it will launch a route between Madrid and Los Cabos in Mexico, using an Airbus A350-900 aircraft. This will be the first time Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) receives the latest Airbus widebody. It will be one of the few airports in the whole country to have A350 flights. Let’s investigate further.

Iberojet latest route

On Monday, Iberojet (a charter carrier owned by Ávoris Corporación Empresarial) announced its latest route.

On June 20, 2022, Iberojet will launch a flight connecting Madrid and Los Cabos in the Baja California peninsula. The carrier will use an Airbus A350-900.

Miguel Ángel Sánchez, Ávoris CEO, said in a statement,

“With this new link, Iberojet demonstrates its commitment to Mexico, a country to which we fly from the start of our operations in 2013. The ambitious flight development plan that we have for 2022 is taking shape thanks to this new destination, which will allow Spanish travelers to enjoy the tourist, cultural and gastronomic charms of this beautiful Mexican region”.

Launching this new route will allow SJD to have up to 8,000 additional tourists next year.

Iberojet will start selling tickets for the new route on December 15, 2021, through its website and several travel agencies in Spain and Portugal.

Currently, SJD has no flights coming from Europe. It has 4,558 scheduled flights monthly, a 22.1% increase compared to its pre-pandemic numbers.

Who is Iberojet?

A year ago, the Spanish company Ávoris decided to merge its two charter airlines, Evelop and Orbest. It launched a single entity called Iberojet.

According to ch-aviation, Iberojet has a branch in Portugal and Spain. The Spanish carrier has a fleet of five aircraft, composed of one Airbus A320-200, two A330-300s, and two A350-900s. Meanwhile, the Portuguese brand has two jets, one A330-300, and one A330-900.

Ávoris in itself is a merger between the Barcelo Group and Globalia. It has its origins in 1973 as a Spanish holiday company. Iberojet is currently an online travel agency that markets its own products. It focuses on connecting with Caribbean destinations like Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Jamaica.

The A350 in Mexico

Monthly, there are 212 commercial scheduled flights using the Airbus A350-900 in Mexico, according to Cirium’s database updated to December 2021. There are zero A350-1000 flights in the country.

Five airlines operate the Airbus widebody in routes to Cancun and Mexico City. The charter operator World2Fly operates the Madrid-Cancun route and has six scheduled flights in December using the A350-900.

Likewise, Iberojet uses the same aircraft to connect between Madrid and Cancun. It has nine scheduled flights this month. Finally, Aeroflot also uses the A350-900 to fly between Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport and Cancun.

Mexico City International Airport receives the largest number of A350 flights at the moment. Iberia and Lufthansa operate the model connecting Madrid and Munich with the Mexican metropolis.

The Spanish flag carrier flies twice using the A350-900 while Lufthansa has scheduled 14 A350-900 flights.

Two years ago, only Iberojet (while it was still called Evelop!) flew the A350-900 to Mexico.
