Jumbo Flights: What Routes Use Flight Number 747?

Think of iconic aircraft and Concorde and the Boeing 747 is likely to feature. But what routes use flight number 747 this week? We check it out and see 11 airlines, 23 routes, and 12 aircraft types and variants. Sadly no 747, though.

23 routes use number 747 this week

Twenty-three routes worldwide use flight number 747 at some point in the week beginning March 23rd. For this purpose, one-stop and multi-stop services are included as one route, but you could easily separate them. It’s up to you.

More routes use flight number 747 than 666, the so-called ‘devil’s number’, this year. However, ‘prestigious’ flight number one, which often conjures up images of prestige, importance, or difference, has more routes still.

As detailed below, some 23 airlines are involved, from Kyrgyzstan operator Avia Traffic, Kazakhstan’s SCAT, and Angola’s TAAG via Belarus’ flag carrier Belavia to commonplace operators in the US. Most continents see some service.

12 aircraft types are used

Aircraft utilized range from Widerøe’s Dash-8-100s within Norway to Emirates’ B777-300ERs from Dubai to Tunis and TAAG from Luanda across the South Atlantic to Sao Paulo. However, the ubiquitous A320ceo (the world’s most-used aircraft) operates more ‘747’ flights than any other type.

More interesting perhaps are Avia Traffic’s B737-300s from Osh to Moscow. While the carrier serves the airport-pair once daily, YK747 operates only on Monday 29th this week.

It leaves Kyrgyzstan at 19:50 and arrives in Russia at 21:25 local time, a flight time of about five hours. A good show for a B737 Classic! Returning, YK748 (another excellent aircraft reference) leaves at 22:45 and arrives home at 06:05 the next day.
