ZIPAIR today shared that it will fly to Los Angeles from December 25th. This flight to the West Coast of the United States is the Japanese carrier’s inaugural long-haul service, bringing low-cost operations between Tokyo and California.
Overseas expansions
The Tokyo Narita-based airline only commenced operations in June 2020. Despite launching during the peak months of the global health crisis, it has done well to expand across the skies.
A subsidiary of Japan Airlines, ZIPAIR has used its leased Boeing 787 Dreamliner to expand consistently across its network. However, amid the conditions of the pandemic, the initial launch focused on cargo flights. Passenger operations then began in October 2020.
The operator flies to the likes of Seoul, Singapore, and Bangkok with its Dreamliners. It does stretch as far as Honolulu, meaning that it already heads to the United States with an approximately eight-hour flight to the middle of the Pacific.
A natural addition
Amid the relaxation of travel restrictions to the United States this month, ZIPAIR is looking to take its services to the next level and go all the way across the ocean. ZIPAIR’s leadership recognizes the opportunities to be had with the change of pace.
“Ever since the introduction of ZIPAIR, one of our key goals was to establish a flight across the Pacific and I could not be prouder to stand here today to announce the launch of our Los Angeles route. Our mission is to define a new standard in the air travel industry by offering a unique low-cost business model on long-haul international routes,” shared Shingo Nishida, President of ZIPAIR Tokyo, in a statement.
“ZIPAIR features a NEW BASIC travel experience by offering personalized services during the flight, which will essentially shorten the sense of time. We are eager to welcome travelers in the U.S. to personally experience this truly new concept in air travel.”
Management at Los Angeles is equally as excited about the move. Becca Doten, Deputy Executive Director, Public & Government Affairs, Los Angeles World Airports, shared that she is thrilled about the launch and noted that there is a growing demand for nonstop flights between Tokyo Narita and Los Angeles International.
Navigating the climate
Altogether, conditions to enter the US are improving, and the country has already seen the return of consistently strong activity in domestic and several international markets. So, ZIPAIR will be looking to jump in on this action. However, in its home of Japan, international air travel is still struggling due to ongoing restrictions.
Regardless, with the situation improving across the Pacific, ZIPAIR can at least get the ball rolling with this service. With Japanese air travel conditions expected to improve in early 2022, the airline will already be familiar with the route and can smoothly handle the extra demand.
