Spanish national flag carrier Iberia and Mexico regional airline Aeromar are pleased to have renewed their interline agreement that connects Aeromar’s 18 Mexican destinations with Europe. A statement issued by Iberia last week says that the Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport (MAD)-based airline is pleased to have renewed its agreement with the Mexican regional carrier.
Since last month, Iberia has been operating two daily flights from the Spanish capital and Mexico City International Airport (MEX). The flights allow Aeromar customers to connect on Iberia from Mexico City to nearly 100 Iberia destinations in Europe. Iberia says that by renewing the agreement, customers of both airlines can travel on a single ticket under the same conditions. Tickets can be purchased by visiting Iberia.com or through travel agencies.
Iberia operates an A350 between MAD and MEX
On the route between Madrid and Mexico City, Iberia operates its most advanced and quietest aircraft the Airbus A350-900. The Spanish airline’s Airbus A350s are configured to carry 348 passengers in three classes of service. Business class has 31 lay-flat seats, 24 wider premium economy class seats, and 293 regular economy class seats.
For its part Mexico City International Airport (MEX)-based Aeromar, according to the aviation statistics and date website, ch-aviation operates a fleet of the following aircraft:
- 4 x ATR42-500s
- 2 x ATR42-600s
- 7 x ATR72-600s
Aeromar flies to 18 destinations from MEX
From its base in the Mexican capital Aeromar flies to the following destinations:
- Acapulco International Airport (ACA)
- Aguascalientes International Airport (AGU)
- General Pedro José Méndez International Airport (CVM)
- Colima Airport (CLQ)
- Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport (GDL)
- La Paz International Airport – Manuel Márquez de León (LAP)
- Mazatlán International Airport (MZT)
- Aeropuerto Internacional de Zihuatanejo (ZIH)
- Ixtepec City Airport (IZT)
- Monterrey International Airport (MTY)
- Piedras Negras International Airport (PDS)
- International Airport Puerto Escondido (PXM)
- Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR)
- San Luis Potosí International Airport (SLP)
- Tepic International Airport (TPQ)
- Veracruz International Airport (VER)
- Torreón International Airport (TRC)
Aeromar also serves two destinations in the United States:
- Laredo International Airport (LRD)
- McAllen Miller International Airport (MFE)

Mexico is an essential market for Iberia
When speaking about its Mexico City flights in the company statement Iberia Director of Latin America Sales and Institutional Agreements Víctor Moneo said:
“At Iberia, we have always opted for Mexico as one of our strategic markets both from the point of view of tourism and business traffic. Since September, we have increased the frequencies to 14 weekly flights, which, added to the agreement with Aeromar, allows us to offer a better service to our clients and a wide range of destinations within the country. All of this reinforces our commitment to this market and favors the flow of travelers and tourism between Mexico and Spain.”
When replying to Mr. Moneo’s comments, Aeromar director of Network Strategy and Alliances Fabricio Cojuc said:
“Aeromar is proud to endorse its association with Iberia, a leading airline in the Mexico-Spain market and recognized worldwide for its service excellence and route network strength. Our preferential connectivity agreement reaffirms Aeromar’s high-quality standards and is an important part of our growing portfolio of interline agreements with first-rate international airlines operating in Mexico.”
