Avelo Airlines has announced another destination out of its growing operation at Las Vegas McCarran (LAS). From December, the airline will add Northern Colorado Regional Airport (FNL) to its schedule, with the destination joining Sonoma County, CA and Eureka, CA, as the third served by Avelo from LAS.
Avelo Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy commented on the announcement saying,
“Traveling between Las Vegas and Northern Colorado is now easier and more affordable than ever. We’re excited to add this popular route to Avelo’s Western U.S. network. Whether you’re arriving or departing, FNL is the ultra-convenient gateway to and from North Denver and Fort Collins.”

A very secondary airport?
The choice of Northern Colorado Regional Airport might seem like an odd one, given its relative absence from most airline schedules. But Avelo could be onto something great here, considering FNL is just minutes from Fort Collins and around a 50-minute drive from downtown Denver. Taking into account the congestion and lengthy queues usually experienced at Denver International, this could position FNL as a powerful alternative gateway to Northern Colorado.
As well as those seeking to explore the great outdoors and mountains of Colorado, there is likely to be plenty of demand in the other direction too. Las Vegas is a destination that requires little introduction, and with an easier and cheaper way to get there, this service could get booked out. Avelo, as per its mantra, will be the only airline serving this route.
Avelo’s flights between Las Vegas and Northern Colorado are set to take off from December 15th, with two flights a week on offer. Departures are on Wednesdays and Saturdays, leading FNL at 12:05 for arrival at LAS at 13:00. The returning flight departs LAS at 13:40, arriving in FNL at 16:30. Tickets are priced from a competitive one-way fare of $39.

The growth of Avelo
It seems like only yesterday that Avelo Airlines was nothing more than a rumored startup. Former United Airlines CFO Andrew Levy first filed for the trademark in January this year, and since then, it’s been a rollercoaster ride for the fledgling airline. Inaugurating services from the underused Hollywood Burbank Airport in late April, the airline has been steadily growing its network ever since.
Focusing on the west coast, the airline grew destinations out of BUR, mainly north to Sonoma, Eureka, Medford, and suchlike, but also headed southeast to Tucson, Arizona. But its eyes weren’t only on the east of the US. Just days after inaugurating its operations from Los Angeles, the airline announced a new base on the east coast – in New Haven, Connecticut.
From there, it has launched a slew of flights down to the sun-soaked cities of Florida. From November, it will fly to five airports – Orlando, Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, and Tampa – giving chilled northeasterners a quicker and better way to make it to the beaches on vacation.
Las Vegas has been its most recent stomping ground, with today’s announcement bringing the destinations served from the entertainment capital to three. Undoubtedly, Avelo is nowhere near done with its growth yet. All things being equal, we could see more growth out of LAS to secondary airports as we head into 2022.
