Finnair And Turkish Airlines Launch Codeshare Partnership

Finnish national flag carrier Finnair has signed a codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines to help offer its customers more choices. In a statement released on September 23, 2021, Finnair said that starting from September 29, 2021, Finnairs’ AY code will be added to the Turkish Airlines flights between Helsinki and Istanbul and several destinations from Istanbul.

The destinations are as follows:

  • Athens
  • Sofia
  • Thessaloniki
  • Amman Sharm El Sheikh
  • Hurghada
  • Luxor
  • Antalya
  • Gazipasa

Reciprocating, Finnair will add Turkish Airlines TK code on Finnair flights from Helsinki to Kuopio, Vaasa, Oulu, Rovaniemi, Reykjavik, Tallinn, Tartu, Riga, Vilnius, Antalya, and Gazipasa.

The codeshare is suitable for both airlines

When speaking about the new codeshare agreement in a company statement Finnair Chief Commercial Officer, Ole Orvér said:

“We are happy to be able to offer more options to our customers, as travel now starts to recover and our customers are again able to fulfill their travel dreams. We also welcome Turkish Airlines’ customers to explore the beautiful Nordics through our extensive network of connections from Helsinki.”

When speaking about what it thought about the codeshare agreement in the same statement Turkish Airlines Chief Investment & Technology Officer Ahmet, Bolat said;

“We are glad to expand our current interline cooperation in terms of this codeshare agreement with Finnair. With the introduction of joint flights on several destinations in Finland, Turkey and Baltics, Iceland, South Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, passengers would enjoy more travel alternatives through the combined flights.”

These days, most airlines have codeshare agreements with other carriers, and unlike the case with Turkish Airlines and Finnair, they are usually both members of the same alliance. Finnair is a member of the oneworld alliance, whereas Turkish Airlines belongs to the Star Alliance.
