Wow: Delta Wants To Hire 1,500 Flight Attendants By Summer 2022

The airline recovery is continuing, and Delta Air Lines is now expanding its hiring. The airline has announced that it is seeking to hire 1,500 flight attendants for the class of 2021/2022. This is on top of the existing openings the airline had for flight attendants. All in all, by summer 2022, the airline expects to have 3,000 new flight attendants to support the ongoing recovery.

Delta Air Lines goes on flight attendant hiring spree

For the 2021/222 flight attendant class, Delta has expanded its hiring with 1,500 new positions. This is in addition to the 1,500 positions Delta previously announced. The airline is filling for candidates that made it through the hiring process before the crisis hit. Nevertheless, it is still seeking new recruits.

Interested candidates can apply here. The airline recommends applicants submit their formal application as soon as possible due to the high demand for the job. In addition, the job posting may only be up for a few days if all of the spaces are filled.

What it takes to be a flight attendant

Flight attendants must have a high school degree or a GED. In addition, applicants need to be able to work in the United States. Prospective flight attendants must also speak English fluently and will be at least 21 years old by January 1st, 2022. One way to stand out would be if you have the ability to speak any of the following languages:

  • Dutch
  • French
  • German
  • Greek
  • Italian
  • Czech
  • Danish
  • Japanese
  • Hebrew

All new flight attendants, including current Delta employees accepted into the training program, must be fully vaccinated with an approved COVID-19 vaccine. Delta has mandated that all new hires must be fully vaccinated, flight attendants or not.

While flight attendants have an important role in safety, they also are involved in customer service. This includes conducting inflight services. Recently, crews have also had to deal with a rash of unruly passengers. Some of those incidents have involved intoxicated passengers and those who did not want to wear a mask in defiance of the federal mask mandate.

Supporting the airline’s recovery

Despite a recent uptick in cases and concerns over the virus, the airline recovery is expected to continue into 2022. Next year, some airlines expect to have one of the best long-haul international summers in recent years. This is on top of the already strong domestic recovery that is expected to continue into 2022.

Delta, like many other airlines, incentivized early-outs for some of its workgroups, including flight attendants. As a result, it now needs more flight attendants to backfill some of those retirements and fill in some new positions that open up due to changing and increased flying.

Delta Air Lines also faced some high-profile cancellations around holidays. Some of that was attributed to a lack of available crews, which the expanded hiring should help rectify and prevent in the future.
