Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has announced its new Abu Dhabi – Bahrain route starting from September 9th. The carrier will operate the route three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. In addition to the recently-announced Tirana and Sarajevo flights, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi’s new Bahrain route is the airline’s 32nd destination.
Abu Dhabi to Bahrain thrice-weekly
With Wizz Air Abu Dhabi finally up and running in January this year, the airline has gone from strength to strength. The UAE-based carrier has now announced flights to Bahrain are coming next month, starting September 9th. This makes a total of 32 destinations in the Wizz Air Abu Dhabi network.
Abu Dhabi – Bahrain flights will be offered three times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The schedule is as follows:
- Departing from Abu Dhabi at 7.10 am, arriving in Bahrain at 7.25 am local time.
- Departing from Bahrain at 11.05 am, arriving in Abu Dhabi at 1.20 pm local time.
Kees Van Schaick, managing director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, said,
“Increasing the connectivity within the GCC has always been a priority for us at Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. We are excited to offer an alternative and affordable travel option for the short flight to the Kingdom of Bahrain.”
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is already selling fares through its website and mobile app, with one-way trips starting at AED129 ($35).
Van Schaick added,
“It is an appealing destination given its proximity to the UAE, welcoming people and wealth of history and culture – we are confident that Bahrain will be a welcome addition to our flight roster.”
Bahrain added to the Green List
As Simple Flying explored, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi’s growth has largely been tied to Abu Dhabi’s ‘Green List’. It comes as no surprise that Bahrain’s addition to the Green List, starting July 31st, has driven Wizz’s decision to fly there. The latest update to the Green List allows travel from 31 countries, with eight new countries (including Bahrain) added this time around.
Vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers from Green List countries are exempt from quarantine upon arrival in Abu Dhabi. However, all visitors will need to take a PCR test after arriving at the airport. Vaccinated travelers will need an additional PCR test on day six, while unvaccinated travelers will need PCR tests on day six and day twelve.
32 destinations in the network
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi’s much-anticipated launch finally came through in January this year after the COVID pandemic forced delays. The airline has grown tremendously in just half a year, with its network now boasting 32 destinations.
The carrier announced four additional routes in June, which included three destinations in Greece (Chania, Mykonos and Rhodes). Last week, the airline added Tirana and Sarajevo to its network. Flights to Tirana will commence on September 11th, while Sarajevo flights will begin on October 3rd.
