Daniel Shurz, senior vice president of commercial at Frontier Airlines, stated the following on the airline’s recent routes:

“Today’s announcement marks one of our largest international expansions ever and we are thrilled to now offer our customers affordable service to four more popular destinations offering both sun and fun.
Summer 2021 has led to phenomenal growth for Frontier and this announcement of 20 new routes comes on the heels of 21 that we unveiled just last week.”

Consistent with Frontier’s prior growth

The new routes are largely consistent with Frontier’s template for growth. As an ultra-low-cost carrier, leisure travelers are its bread and butter. The carrier will sell connections, but its primary strategy is to be a point-to-point carrier. It was only a few days ago when the carrier announced 21 new routes.

All of these routes are largely targeting markets with reduced frequencies. Frontier traditionally flies routes with low frequencies to match demand. This is how the airline can fly larger jets into smaller cities with just a few flights a week.

Building out an international presence

One market where Frontier has a relatively smaller presence than its peers is Latin America and the Caribbean. As the airline takes on more Airbus A320neos, expect even more growth from the carrier in this market.

Latin America and the Caribbean is a growing geography and was one of the first international markets to reopen for Americans and see a boost in tourism. One of the draws in this market, especially during the winter, is warm beaches and rich cultural attractions.
