Where Can Vaccinated Indians Travel Right Now?

Following a brutal wave of COVID-19 in April and May, cases have been dropping steadily in India over the last few weeks. Considering this, several countries are now allowing vaccinated Indians to travel for tourism once again. Here’s a list of countries accepting vaccinated travelers from India currently.

Spain

One of the busiest tourist destinations in the world, Spain reopened its border to all vaccinated tourists globally on June 7th. To be eligible, passengers need to be fully vaccinated with a WHO or EMEA-approved vaccine. This means only travelers who have received Covishield (Oxford-AstraZeneca) will be eligible to apply for visas currently.

In addition to vaccination proof, travelers will also have to take RT-PCR tests before departure. While visa processing remains closed in parts of India due to high cases, those with existing visas can pack their bags and head to Europe!

Under India’s “travel bubble” rules, only mainland European carriers can carry citizens to the EU. This means Lufthansa, Air France, and KLM are currently only the airlines available for booking. It’s important to also keep track of testing rules at each of the transit points of your journey.

Serbia

Another popular destination for travelers could be Serbia. The country is allowing travelers from all countries with a negative RT-PCR test. Moreover, Indians are eligible for visa-on-arrival in Belgrade, making travel far easier. Serbia also accepts one dose of Covishield (Oxford-AstraZeneca) as proof of vaccination for travelers.

While Belgrade might not be on top of travelers’ lists for European cities, travel restrictions have made it fairly popular in the last year. Low case rates in the country mean that restrictions have also been eased, and travelers can make the most of the summer.

Passengers considering a trip to the Southeastern European country can fly with Qatar Airways, Air France, or KLM.

Mexico

If you’re looking for sunshine and beaches, Mexico might be at the top of your list! The country does not require any vaccine or pre-flight testing, making it an easily accessible destination. While the Mexican Embassy is currently not issuing tourist visas, those with valid US, UK, Schengen, or Japanese visas as well as permanent residents can enter visa-free.

Currently, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, and United are serving several locations in Mexico with one stop. However, the US’ ongoing travel ban means that most cannot transit the country, removing United from the list of options for most.

Egypt

Another popular country open to travelers is Egypt. Non-vaccinated travelers will be required to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival in the country. However, fully vaccinated travelers with any WHO-approved can enter the country without an arrival test. Pre-departure testing remains in place for all passengers and at transit points.

However, flying to Egypt might be slightly more complicated than usual. Emirates is not accepting passengers from India to the country, while transit through London is also banned. This only leaves Qatar Airways, Air France, KLM, and Lufthansa as options for travelers.

As usual, recheck all the conditions of travel before booking any tickets. With restrictions changing on a near-daily basis, expect to receive both good news and bad news when traveling in 2021.
