Low-cost carrier Eurowings is set to launch a brand new operating base in Prague this October. The carrier will station two aircraft in Prague from October 31st and offer direct flights to many leading European destinations, including Barcelona, Milan, Copenhagen, Athens and the Canary Islands.
Expanding Eastern European connections
With Eurowings looking to expand its network, the airline will establish a base in Prague this October. Eurowings will initially station two Airbus A320 aircraft in Prague before adding a third A320 by the summer of 2022. The move is a sign that airlines have growing confidence in the resurgence of the aviation industry this year.
This will be the first time Eurowings has established a base in the Czech Republic, with the airline set to offer “non-stop connections from Prague to attractive business and holiday destinations throughout Europe.” The low-cost carrier, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, currently flies to over 100 destinations, primarily holiday spots.
Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof said,
“Eurowings will offer non-stop connections to Czech business travelers and vacationers alike – just in time for the relaunch of air traffic after the long-time Corona crisis. We will focus on offering local touch combined with top-notch customer-friendly services at our Prague base that will clearly distinguish Eurowings from low-cost airlines.”
With its new operating base, Eurowings claims to have created more than 100 new jobs and added impetus to the Czech aerospace industry. Once the new Prague operating base is up and running, it will be the 10th European operating hub for Eurowings.
Direct flights to top European destinations
Eurowings’ new base will connect Prague to many leading European destinations, both business and leisure. Starting from October 31st, destinations include:
- Barcelona
- Milan
- Athens
- Stockholm
- Copenhagen
- Tel Aviv
- Birmingham
- Canary Islands
Travelers will be able to book fares through the Eurowings website or app from June 22nd. One-way tickets start at 29.99 EUR ($36). To begin with, two A320-200’s will serve the Prague base, with plans for a third A320 to be stationed there by the summer of 2022.
One of Europe’s most punctual carriers
With a strong track record of punctuality and customer service, Eurowings has received various awards recognizing its excellence. Most recently, the airline took home triple gold at the 2021 German Customer Awards for “best price/performance ratio,” “best customer satisfaction,” and “best customer service.”
One of the carrier’s more recent innovations is its middle seat policy, which has gone down well with travelers. The airline allows passengers to book a middle seat, whether for hygiene or personal comfort, for as little as 10 EUR ($12). Eurowings claims “this new option is already a bestseller on Eurowings flights after a short time and a benchmark for the industry.”
According to ch-aviation, Eurowings has a total of 91 aircraft in its fleet. 52 of these are the A320-200 type with an average age of 9.6 years. The airline also has a firm order for 10 A320-200neos.
