Italian regional airline Air Dolomiti has announced a new service from its focus city in Frankfurt, Germany. The route will serve two destinations in the south of Sweden, namely Ronneby and Kalmar. The service, which is set to commence operations this coming September, will operate five times a week, using the Embraer E195LR.
The new route
Being a wholly-owned subsidiary of German flag carrier Lufthansa, Air Dolomiti is looking to expand its presence in the country. Although its primary operating base is in Verona, Italy, it has also designated Frankfurt and Munich as focus cities. As such, it announced yesterday that it would be launching a new route from the former of these this September.
Air Dolomiti’s existing routes from Frankfurt serve Italy (Florence, Turin, Verona) and Austria (Linz). However, as of September 19th, it will be expanding its horizons northward. This date will see it begin flying to a pair of destinations in the south of Sweden.

The first of these will be Ronneby, a small town of 12,029 inhabitants on the country’s south coast known as the ‘garden of Sweden.’ The service will then fly onwards to Kalmar. This larger city has a population of 36,392, and is situated on the Baltic coast adjacent to the island of Ă–land. Kalmar has carried great historical importance in years gone by.
Scheduled to connect with Italian flights
The route will operate Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays from September 19th onwards. As you can see, the service will operate in the form of a triangular route. Interestingly, the Ronneby – Kalmar leg does not appear to be bookable as a standalone journey. The exact schedule for the flights is as follows.
- Frankfurt 12:00 – Ronneby 13:35 (EN8880).
- Ronneby 14:20 – Kalmar 14:50 (EN8882).
- Kalmar 15:35 – Frankfurt 17:25 (EN8883).
Air Dolomiti hopes that Italian passengers will also use the service by connecting through its focus city in Frankfurt to experience the wonders of southern Sweden. Joerg Eberhart, the airline’s President and CEO, stated that:
“I am very happy about this new connection, which will allow easy access to Sweden from several Italian cities. An area that has always seemed far away now becomes easy to reach, and, in this way, we can give continuity to our project to expand our range of flights and offer new destinations to our passengers.”
An all-Embraer airline
As with all its routes, Air Dolomiti will serve Ronneby and Kalmar with the Embraer E-195LR. According to Planespotters.net, its fleet consists solely of 15 examples of this four-abreast regional jet. These feature 120 seats, although SeatGuru reports that eight of these are blocked to give business class passengers a pair of seats to themselves.
