Iberia Will Return To Cali And Bets On Portugal This Summer

Spanish national flag carrier Iberia announced this week that for summer 2021, it is resuming its flight to Cali, Colombia, and betting big on Iberian Peninsular neighbor Portugal. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Iberia says that its main objective has been to regain the trust of its customers. As vaccination programs pick up worldwide, Iberia recently announced its intention to fly to 113 destinations during the summer months.

Having always made safety a top priority, Iberia now adds security and the health protection of its employees and customers to its list of most important considerations. To recover flights to Colombia, a destination Iberia has been flying to for 63 years, the IAG-owned airline announced it would offer three flights per week to Cali starting from July 2, 2021.

An A330-200 will be used for Cali flights

Iberia flight number IB6603 will depart Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport (MAD) on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 13:00 and arrive at Aeropuerto Internacional Alfonso Bonilla Aragón (CLO) at 16:50.

Iberia flight number IB6604 will depart Aeropuerto Internacional Alfonso Bonilla Aragón (CLO) on Monday, Saturday and Sunday at 20:30 and arrive at Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport (MAD) 13:45 the next day.

The flight will be operated by an Airbus A330-200 aircraft configured to carry 288 passengers, 19 in business class and 269 in economy class. Along with the return of Madrid to Cali flights, Iberia is once again flying to Guayaquil, Ecuador, and the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. Iberia is yet to decide if it wants to resume flights to Caracas, Venezuela.

Flights to Portugal

With COVID-19 and travel restrictions likely to play a big part in where people can vacation this summer, Iberia offers more flights to Portugal. Currently, Iberia offers 14 flights a week between Madrid and the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, which will increase to 22 flights per week between June and September. The northern Portuguese city of Porto currently has seven weekly flights that will see an increase in frequencies to 11 in June and 14 from July to October.

Starting June 2, 2021, Iberia will begin flying to Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira. During June, the flights between Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport (MAD) and Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport (FNC) will be on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. During July, August, and September, Iberia will fly five times a week on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The flights will be operated by Iberia subsidiary Air Nostrum who will be flying a 100 passenger CRJ1000 aircraft on the route.

The second new Portuguese destination for Iberia is the resort of Faro in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. Iberia Regional / Air Nostrum will operate the flights on behalf of Iberia with three frequencies per week in June, increasing to five weekly flights from July until the end of September.

Iberia to partner with Viagens Abreu

In a year that has seen an increase in Portuguese domestic flights, Iberia has partnered with Portuguese travel agency Viagens Abreu to offer charter flights between Lisbon and Porto to Porto Santo Airport (PXO) on Madiera.

Flights are scheduled to begin on June 6th, with a weekly roundtrip flight from Lisbon and Porto to PXO on a Sunday.  One the route, Iberia will deploy a 173 passenger Airbus A320 with weekly flights scheduled until October 10, 2021.
