Delta Air Lines has announced it will serve four new markets from Boston and New York City. The carrier will also increase the use of its A220 fleet in the Bostonian market, appealing to the business travelers in this region. Let’s investigate further.
Boston market increase
As of next week, Delta will offer 16 routes out of Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS). This includes the launch of its new international service to Reykjavík, Iceland, beginning on May 20.
According to Cirium’s database, Delta is offering 253 weekly flights out of Boston, with 41,334 seats available. Its most important route is Boston-Atlanta.
That will change shortly, following Delta’s announcement. Starting on October 4, Delta will launch three routes out of Boston. These are:
- Twice-daily service to Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW) operated on the Airbus A220-100.
- Three-time-daily service to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) operated on the Embraer 175 aircraft.
- Upgrade nonstop service to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) on the A220-100.
- Three-times-daily service from Boston to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) operated on Embraer 175.
Additionally, on July 7, Delta will upgrade its Boston-Los Angeles route by using the Boeing 757, which is equipped with the lie-flat Delta One Cabin.
What about New York City?
New York City will also get a boost of Delta’s activity through its operation at LaGuardia International Airport. Joe Esposito, senior vice president of Network Planning at the airline, said in a statement,
“As demand grows, our commitment to Boston and New York is stronger than ever, which is why we’re continuing to invest in these communities to offer more nonstops and greater connectivity to top markets.”
Therefore, starting on August 5, Delta will launch twice-daily service between LaGuardia and Toronto’s YYZ. It will operate the flight with its Embraer 175 fleet. By the fall, Delta will increase the number of daily frequencies to six times a day, as travel restrictions lift and transborder demand returns.

More A220 for the Bostonians
Delta Air Lines is the largest operator of the Airbus A220 family in the United States. It is currently operating 884 weekly flights and offering over a hundred thousand seats with the A220, said Cirium.
The A220 is one of the most popular aircraft at the moment. Delta’s A220 is ideal for business travelers. It has 109 seats for the domestic market and offers several features well received by the public.
For instance, it has a state-of-the-art interior, featuring seat-back screens and 2Ku WiFi, said Delta in a statement.
Now, Delta’s A220 expansion from Boston complements existing service in other major business routes. Delta operates this airplane in airports such as LaGuardia, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Further on, Delta plans to expand the A220 to other Northeast business markets. The airline is eyeing the routes LaGuardia-Chicago O’Hare, as well as New York and Boston to Raleigh-Durham.
Finally, when Delta starts using the A220 between Boston and Cincinnati, it will mark the A220’s official debut in CVG.
