Ready for the summer

Avianca will be flying between San Jose, Costa Rica and Miami, Florida from July 1st. The flights will be conducted daily and will be performed by the carrier’s Airbus A320 aircraft. Overall, over 8,000 seats will be available each month, giving plenty of opportunities for travel between the two hotspots.

The flag carrier of Colombia highlights that these services are being launched in line with its initiative to provide direct flights between regional markets. The company is also looking to offer a simpler product to allow for more effective travel amid the change of conditions over the last year.

In a statement, Rolando Damas, Avianca’s managing director for North America & Asia, said the following about the flights.

“We see this as an important opportunity to strengthen connectivity options for passengers traveling between Miami and Costa Rica, which leads us to initiate a direct operation between the two markets in July. This decision also responds to a recurring request from passengers.”

The executive added that travelers can already book tickets on the airline’s website and app. They can also phone the company’s call center or book via a travel agent.

Flight AV 690 is scheduled to depart San Jose at 10:35 and arrive at 15:38 in Florida. Meanwhile, The return, AV 691, leaves Miami at 14:20 and arrives in San Jose at 15:23. All times are local. Notably, Avianca adds that the route network and service will be subject to future decisions of various authorities subject to the changing circumstances of the pandemic in the area of the operation.

Smart thinking

Altogether, there is a strong connection between the US and the countries of Costa Rica and Mexico when it comes to both family and leisure. Moreover, the two Latin American nations have notable fewer restrictions compared to several other popular summer destinations. These conditions have even helped United Airlines exceed its pre-pandemic schedule to the region.

Additionally, carriers are having to adapt amid the ongoing restrictions across the globe. For instance, transatlantic services have been rocked following constraints on travel between the Americas and Europe due to the global health crisis. Regardless, Avianca’s leadership recently told Simple Flying that these markets will remain key once restrictions are lifted. Until then, airlines are having to refocus their attention. So, these routes to the US may prove to be vital as the summer approaches.
