American Airlines has relaunched its daily service between Philadelphia and Dublin. The resumption began this weekend and marks an important occasion since suspensions were put in place last year when travel restrictions were implemented amid the rise of the pandemic.
Back in action
The Boeing 787-8, with registration N815AA, left Philadelphia International Airport under flight AA722 last night at 21:41 EDT before arriving at Dublin Airport at 08:09 IST this morning. The return flight, AA723 then left the capital of Ireland at 11:18 IST to arrive back across the Atlantic at 13:31 EDT.
Overall, this route to Dublin is just one of 16 resumptions to Europe from early next month. This figure is a sizeable increase from the present six routes in place. Flying In Ireland notes that Barcelona, Madrid, Milan Malpensa, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Rome are among other route returns across the carrier’s network.
There will also be a new operation between Seattle and London Heathrow starting on 30th March. Flights will leave three times per week while being conducted by a Boeing 777-200 aircraft. The service will also be daily from June.
A welcome return
The operator welcomed its first 787 back in January 2015, marking the start of a new chapter for the airline with the aircraft. The plane is a favorite among many major carriers, and American is no different.
“We are committed to delivering a fantastic product for our customers with the continuation of our unprecedented fleet renewal program and more than $2 billion in improvements in the customer experience,” said Doug Parker, American’s chairman and CEO, in a statement amid the initial delivery.
“The 787 makes our fleet younger and more modern and it will open up new possibilities to connect our customers to the places they want to fly.”

According to Planespotters.net, American has a total of 45 Boeing 787 Dreamliners in its fleet. Moreover, only three of them are currently parked.
Looking ahead
Altogether, this return to Dublin is a sign of hopeful things to come following the serious downturn in international passenger activity. There would undoubtedly be plenty of citizens on both sides of the pond longing to hit the skies again.
